DAY 10 | FLORENCE

Florence seemed to be the beginning of our trip.

We decided to stay in a hostel in the heart of the city. We walked up the door, and it looked like the entrance to an apartment building. We basically were staying in an apartment in Florence. It definitely added to the authenticity of the experience.

For me, its difficult to say which part of Florence was a highlight, because at every turn there was another church, another sculpture, another piazza, another statue. But it's easy to say that The Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore was on top of that list. The scale, the detail, the presence. It dominated the Piazza. The amount of detail was absolutely mind-blowing. From afar you really miss out on all of the sublities, the marble / granite / wood combinations, the intricate carvings, the expressions of the faces in the stone, and the woodwork.

Also, absolutely amazing, were the MASSIVE Rubens' in the Niobe room of the Uffizi Gallery. The second you walk into this room, the scale of the paintings, overwhelms your visual senses. And the most beautiful Rembrandt known to man. I wasn't allowed to photograph in the Uffizi, but I snapped a picture of it anyway.

Then, there were the little things. The most amazing steak ever (bistecca fiorentina), coupled with most delicious red. The sound, and look of a red Ferrari on the streets of Florence. The club in the park, and Arno.

Here are some photo's from Florence.
