Days 1-3 - Travel & Yerevan | Padani

Lets start off with the simple fact that Aeroflot, the Russian airline company from which we purchased the tickets to Armenia is by far the most out-dated, backwards, and obnoxious airline carriers known to man. The service provided by the in-flight crew was horrible (they barely spoke English and I got by because I understood Russian). The planes had no in-flight entertainment, on top of the fact that they seemed like they were made in the 60/70s (they still had CRT tvs!!!). It may come off as me being a brat about the flight, but in actually this situation is an analogy for the complete disregard for others that this side of the world demonstrates towards people. I'm sure this situation will not be the last.

Aeroflot non-sense aside, I arrived in Yerevan on the 7th of July around 2pm.My first impression of Yerevan is amazement at how much this city has changed since I had last visited. It is a city of remarkable contrast (buildings that seem like they are about to collapse juxtaposed with either newly developed projects or construction sites, tractors from the 1960s used by the government surrounded by the most current Mercedes or BMW vehicles). But what's most impressive is that the city has not lost it's unique character. For example the facades of the buildings which give the city it's distinctive architectural feel are either carefully restored or in the case of new construction reuse the previous facade by painstakingly numbering each brick to piece it together afterward.

Overall the city demonstrates strong potential for growth and technological advancement. The cell phone and internet infrastructures simplfy this task. In some cases my data transfer rates for the internet were faster than in NYC and I'm connected via a 3g internet modem.

These are my initial impressions and as the days go on I'll update with more.

In the mean time, check out some of the photographs of the first three days.
